one long year

the new album from American Sigh is out now

On One Long Year, Matz sets out less to satirize this distinctly un-satirizable moment than to show how it feels to live in a period when the question of “how to live” is harder to answer than ever.

“Built on a foundation of granite-solid songwriting, Virtue Signal, despite grappling with rather heavy subject matter, is fundamentally just a darn great record.”

— The Big Takeover

As art reflects life, the new American Sigh record Virtue Signal reflects a time of transition. Originally rising to prominence in West Palm Beach, songwriter Theo Matz paints a melodic portrait of a world reeling from a loss of faith and learning to find hope in the face of nihilism. The only sure thing is change, and Virtue Signal wraps meditations on a world in flux in a beguiling blend of up-tempo indie folk, second-wave emo guitar squall, and articulate, chiming melody. Built on a foundation of granite-solid songwriting (this record was written primarily on acoustic guitar), while Virtue Signal represents an evolution in Matz’ creative reality it is still, as Glide dubbed the last record, “immediately engaging and full of intricate nuance.”

“one of the key tracks off Virtue Signal, the downright Ochs-evoking “Proof”” - Ron Hart

— Rock & Roll Globe

“The amount of calm that took me over as soon as I hit play on this track was deafening in all of the right ways.”

— Girl At The Rock Shows

“A sweeping coming-of-age record full of passion and contemplation, American Sigh’s debut album ‘Honor System’ is as an alternative wonderland: Dreamy and intimate, parts rock, folk, and pop, it’s the perfect introduction to a band we can’t wait to hear much more from in the years to come.” - Mitch Mosk

— Atwood Magazine

“the band deftly layers beguiling indie-pop over complex post-rock melodic arrangements to craft a sound at once immediately engaging and full of intricate nuance.”

— Glide Magazine

“While the name might conjure a resignation of fate after a protracted battle against societal norms, American Sigh is Theo Matz’s humble West Palm Beach entry into a canon of forgotten pop craftsmanship. Modern in approach and leveled so instruments and vocals shine, there is an underlying nostalgia to its saccharine epidermis. ” - Abel Folgar

— Pure Honey Magazine

As artists and cultural producers, we join hands with the people of the world and with the heroic people of Palestine, to stop this genocidal war and put an end to 75 years of occupation. We understand the power that our work has in shaping public opnion in our time. As artists we have a unique responsibility to use our voice and artistic practices to protest apartheid and amplify the just cause of the Palestinian people and their resistance against occupation and oppression.

We, the undersigned artists, stand in firm solidarity with those resisting occupation and fighting for their right to self-determination. We commit to using our platforms to challenge at every turn the massive misinformation campaigns waged by those who have a vested interest in the destruction of the Palestinian land and people without fear of repercussions. We dedicate ourselves to standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to use our artistic and cultural practices as tools of liberation in the struggle for sovereignty, dignity, and self-determination.
